Washington County Sheriff Information

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for protecting the life and property of all individuals living, working, and visiting the area. There are several divisions within the WCSO including Patrol, Communications, and Corrections. The Patrol Division is comprised of 10 full-time deputies and 3 part-time deputies. The deputies are primarily responsible for civil process, calls for service, traffic enforcement, and traffic investigations. One deputy is dedicated to Criminal Investigations. He is responsible for investigating various crimes such as homicide, burglaries, sex crimes, and fraud. The head of the WCSO is Sheriff Len Campbell. He serves as the Chief Law Enforcement Officer in the county. The second-in-command is Chief Deputy John Kennedy. He answers directly to the Sheriff and is responsible for supervising the day-to-day activities of the entire agency.

Washington County Jail Information

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office operates the county jail. The facility houses individuals arrested by local law enforcement agencies awaiting bond or trial. The jail can hold up to 25 people. Inmates at this facility are allowed visitation with family. Each inmate can have two 20-minute visits each week. There can be two or more visitors per session. All visitors must be listed on the inmate’s visitation list which can contain a maximum of 4 adults. The visitation schedule is as follows:

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting applications for the position of Deputy Sheriff. Candidates must be a US citizen, between 21 and 35 years old (if without law enforcement experience), have a high school diploma or its equivalent, and possess a valid driver’s license. Applicants will need to undergo a psychological test, a polygraph test, a physical test, and a drug screen. The starting salary is $20.38 per hour. The benefits include 40 hours vacation after one year, 13 holidays, 2 personal days, 80 hours of sick time per year, health insurance, and SLEP retirement.
