The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office is a public safety agency that is committed to protecting the life, property, and rights of all individuals within the county. It is comprised of several bureaus which are Administrative Services, Support Services, Uniform Services, the Detective Bureau, and Corrections. The Administrative Services consists of divisions and sections which include Courthouse Security, Personnel, Accreditation, and Fiscal Services. The head of this bureau is Deputy Chief Donald Gasparini, Jr. The Support Services Bureau oversees the 911 Center Operations and EDSA. Uniform Services, under the leadership of Deputy Chief Dominick Barcellona, consists of 105 sworn officers. This bureau contracts with the villages of Machesney Park and New Millford as well as the Winnebago County Forest Preserve District to provide law enforcement services. The Detective Bureau is responsible for conducting follow-up investigations of all crimes reported to the Sheriff’s Office. The head of this bureau is Deputy Chief Michael Schultz.The head of the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office is Sheriff Gary Caruana. He is the Chief Law Enforcement Officer in the county. The second-in-command is Chief Deputy Mark Karner who is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the entire department.
Winnebago County Jail Information
The Corrections Bureau of the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for overseeing the operations and maintenance of the Winnebago County Jail. This is a 1,324-bed, direct-supervision facility with over 200 corrections officers. Inmates at the facility are allowed visitation. Visits are limited to 20 minutes for each inmate in general population. For inmates in segregation, visits are limited to 15 minutes. The visitation schedule is as follows:
