Washington Park is a village in St. Clair County, Illinois and the county seat is Belleville. As of the 2010 census the population was 4,196. In 2009, Washington Park filed for Chapter 9 bankruptcy protection citing debts of more than $1M. Unfortunately, the bankruptcy was thrown out. To make matters worse for Washington Park, The Mayor, John Thornton was fatally shot in his car on April 1, 2010. In 2012, Washington Park’s police force was disbanded. The village was neglected and robbed of everything. Now there is a new administration driven to resurrect the village.
