Rock Island is home to Rock Island Arsenal, the largest government-owned weapons manufacturing arsenal in the United States. It employs about 6,000 people. Rock Island has a wide variety of housing. There are historic homes, new downtown homes and condos, and new construction right in the heart of the city and the wooded retreats.
