Coal Valley Illinois is a village in Rock Island County and Henry County, Illinois. The county seats are Rock Island in Rock Island County and Cambridge in Henry County. There are 3,743 residents in Coal Valley. The village is mainly residential with families who work in our out of the greater Quad Cities area. It is a suburb. The village was settled by trappers and farmers from Wales England, Ireland, Germany and Sweden. It is reputed that William and Charles Bailey built the first house in the present village and operated a small mine. This mine could be the first discovery of coal in the vicinity.
