Edwardsville, Illinois is a city in Madison County, Illinois. As of the 2010 census, the population was 24, 293. The county seat of Madison County is Edwardsville. Edwardsville is also the third oldest city in Illinois. In 2010 Edwardsville was named by Family Circle magazine as one of the Top 10 Best Towns for Families. It is also home of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, and the Edwardsville Arts Center. Abraham Lincoln visited Edwardsville twice. Once as an attorney in the 1814 courthouse and once as a speaker outside the 1857 courthouse.

In 2016 there were 56 full time law enforcement employees and 42 of these employees were officers. This officers per 1,000 residents as 1.67.
The Police Department runs Edwardsville Citizen’s Police Academy to strengthen the positive relationship between the PD and the citizens. They also have a D.A.R.E. Program as well as patrol, school officers, investigation division, and field supervisors. Patrol officers work rotating shifts every fifty-six days.
