Fox Lake is a village included in the Grant and Antioch townships. The village is in Lake County with parts of the village in McHenry County, Illinois. The county seat is Woodstock. As of the 2010 census, the population was 10,579. There are many summer homes in Fox Lake. The village is among the Chain O’Lakes where swimming, and boating are popular activities. There were about 28,000 boats registered on the lake system in 2006. Interesting note: in 2015 Police Lt. Joe Gliniewicz was found shot to death. The manhunt for his killer consumed the entire village. Thousands of civilians watched the memorial procession of hundreds of officers. After a two-month long investigation, authorities found Gliniewicz committee a carefully staged suicide. He had been involved in embezzlement.
