Kankakee, Illinois is a city in Kankakee County. It is also the county seat of Kankakee County. The city’s name comes from the Miami-Illinois word teeyaahkiki. The land the city sits on was once a marsh. As of the 2010 census the population was 27,537. Kankakee is the principal city in the Kankakee-Bourbonnais-Bradley metropolitan Statistical Area. Kankakee was founded in 1833 after a treaty signed by the Potawatomi agreeing to leave the area and move west. Frank Lloyd Wright designed two homes n the Riverview section of the city. The B. Harley Bradley House and the Warren Hickox House still stand today. Great history and sightseeing abound in Kankakee.
