Lansing, Illinois is a village in Cook County, Illinois and the county seat is Chicago. Lansing is a suburb of Chicago and the population the 2010 census was 28,331. In 1843 the August Hildebrandt family were the first settlers, the 1846 the Lansing family settled in the area. Mainly German and Dutch immigrants settled in Lansing to build homes, businesses and farms. In 1856 the Pennsylvania Railroad came through Lansing. Lansing is located on a sand ridge and the sand pit of years ago is now Lansing’s downtown business district.
