Tremont, Illinois is a village in Tazewell County, and the county seat is Pekin . The population of Tremont at the 2010 census was 2,236. Tremont is a suburb of Peoria and 15 minutes from downtown Peoria. Tremont hosts the annual Tremont Turkey festival which draws about 30,000 people for one summer weekend. The headquarters of the Tazewell County Health Department is in Tremont. Tremont is noted for being host to Abraham Lincoln during his travels as a lawyer. He visited the Tremont Courthouse in 1842 where James Shields challenged him to a duel. Lincoln last spoke in Tremont in August of 1858. A marker commemorates this event.
