Elgin is home to Max Alder founder of the Alder Planetarium in Chicago, America’s first planetarium. Elgin is one of the few cities in northern Illinois to claim a riverboat casino. The Grand Victoria Casino is a significant source of income for the city. It draws nearly four million people annually and is the fifth most popular tourist attraction in Illinois.
