Lynwood is a village in Cook County, Illinois and the county seat is Chicago. The population at the 2010 census was 9,007. Lynwood is a relatively new village. It was founded in 1959. Lynwood has a mix of suburban neighborhoods and a substantial amount of remaining farmland. At one time there was a plan by the Ho-Chunk Indian Nation of Wisconsin to create a reservation within the village. The hope was to place the land into a trust and create a megaresort including casino gambling. So far, nothing has come of these plans. Lynwood is just 26 miles from Chicago, but it remains a peaceful escape from the busyness of Chicago.
