Cherry Valley was the first village in the area to develop a curb recycling program. It is also the first community to require full suburban improvement for all new subdivisions. Cherry Valley requires subdivision developers to dedicate land or fees for the development of parks and open space. Cherry Valley has one of the first enclosed shopping malls in Illinois. Cherryvale draws shoppers from over fifty miles and is the single greatest source of revenue for the village.
