Crestwood is a proponent of low taxes and minimal government, however in 2009 the Chicago Tribune revealed the Crestwood’s low taxes came about due to illegally saving money on its water bills. It supplemented its drinking water from a well contaminated with toxic chemicals. In 2013 the alleged criminals were found guilty. The water is being cleaned up.
