Danville, Illinois is a city in Vermilion County, Illinois and Danville is the country seat of Vermillion. At the 2010 census the population was 33,027. Danville is located 120 miles from Chicago. Lake Vermillion is located on the northwest side of town. Danville was a major coal mining area. The first open pit mining techniques were practiced in Danville, Illinois. Former mines were converted into lakes which created a unique fishing and recreational area called Kickapoo State Recreation Area.

In 2015 (the last year statistics were available) full -time law enforcement including police officers is 75. Sixty-three full time employees are officers. The Danville Police Patrol Section is the first responder to all incidents involving adult or juvenile offenses or when a policer officer is needed. The Criminal Investigation Section follow-up and all investigation of offenses involving adult and juvenile offenders. The Juvenile Section is part of the Criminal Investigation Section and processes all cases involving juvenile. A School Officer is assigned to the Juvenile Section and is an important part of the school staff. There is also a Problem Oriented Policing Unit, a K-9 Unit, a “Friendly Town” safety unit, Citizen’s Police Academy, Auxiliary police unit, Field Training Unit, and Emergency Response Unit.
