Lyons, Illinois – Information

Lyons, Illinois also known as Lyons Township is a village in Cook County Illinois. The county seat is Chicago. At the 2010 census, the population was 10,729. The Chicago Portage National Historic Site is located in Lyons. From the early 1960s through the 1980s, Lyons was known for it links to organized crime. During the 1970s and 1980s Lyons was littered with strip clubs and bars along its Ogden Avenue corridor. The area east of Ogden Avenue was known as “Driftland” due to the drifters in the area. The village has changed dramatically since them. Many of the strip clubs and most of the bars are gone. Lyons is known as the Gateway to the West and is the reason Chicago is such an important city.
