Palos Park, Illinois is an affluent village in southwestern Cook County, Illinois. The county seat is Chicago and the population at the 2010 census was 4,847.  The landscape of Palos Park includes thickly forested hills. These wooded hills set this village apart from other communities. Palos Park was also known as an artists’ retreat in the first half of the twentieth century. The village is surrounded on the north, west, and south by the Cook County Forest Preserves, while Palos Heights lies to the east. Summer and weekend have been slowly converted to year-round residences. The population rose as families from urban areas settled here, and the village became a bedroom community for people commuting to jobs in Chicago.
