Park Forest, Illinois is a village in Cook and Will Counties. The county seat for Cook is Chicago and for Will is Joliet. Park Forest is located south of Chicago and at the 2010 census had 21,975 residents. The annual Labor Day race or the “Scenic 10” a 10-mile race, was originally held in Park Forest. In 2008, the race was shortened to a 5-mile course to attract more runners. It was renamed the “Scenic Five.” On March 26, 2003, a meteor exploded over the Midwest, showering Park Forest with dozens of fragments. These fragments are currently on display at the Field Museum in Chicago. There are 2,000 acres of parks, recreation facilities and open land in Park Forest. Park Forest has the most area of parks per capita in Illinois. Park Village is home to one of the most popular outdoor swimming complexes in Illinois.
