Peoria, Illinois is a city in Peoria County, Illinois and it is also the county seat. Peoria is the largest city on the Illinois River. The city was found in 1691 by French explorers including Hendrie Tonti which makes Peoria the oldest European settlement in Illinois. The name comes from the Peoria tribe.
