Rantoul, Illinois is a village in Champaign County Illinois.  The county seat is Urbana. The population at the 2010 census was 12, 941. Rantoul was the site of Chanute Field in 1917 and Chanute Field grew in the 1920 dominating the local economy. Renamed Chaute Air Force Base after WII the base as closed in 1993 but was preoccupied by the Octave Chanute Aerospace Museum. The Museum closed on December 30, 2015. Since then the economy has suffered and has not yet recovered.
