Rochester is a village in Sangamon County, Illinois. The county seat is Springfield. The population at the 2009 census was 3,246. The village was officially settle in 1819. Rochester is 4 miles outside Springfield, Illinois and off exit 96A Interstate 55. The village has an incredible park located on the northwest side of the Village. There is a lighted ballfield, multiple soccer fields, and the Friendship Fort a play structure built in 1998. The park is the host for many village events including Sparks in the Park. This is an annual Independence Day festival with a carnival, entertainment, and vendors. The event is three days long and attracts visitors from all around the area.

The Sangamon County Detention facility is a Police Training Institute for the state mandated Basic Correctional Officer Training. Candidates from all over Illinois attend a five-week training course. In addition, inmates are supervised by a staff of 72 Correctional Officers and 27 Control Room Operators. Telephone are in every cellblock and inmates can make as many calls daily as they wish. Personal visits are 25 minutes in length and are monitored. Inmates are allowed up to four visits per week.

Mail can be received and sent. Incoming mail be addressed to the Sangamon Corrections Division 1 Sheriff’s Plaza Springfield, Illinois 62701 and have the inmate’s name clearly listed on the envelope. Inmates have an unlimited account and family and friends may place money on an inmates account daily. Use the kiosk in the main lobby area of the jail facility. You can also send money in the form of a money order sent through the mail. Visit the Jail to access other ways to send money.
