The Winnebago County Jail has 1324 beds and direct supervision of inmates. There are 200 corrections officers and 385,000 square feet of space in the jail. It is designed to accommodate anticipated growth in population in the county. Included with the safety and security of the staff and inmates, there is a program division with 8 classrooms available on the third and fourth floors. GED, life skills, religious education and substance abuse education are provided.

The second floor of the jail houses special needs inmates, and the 1st floor is for booking, and classification. The third and fourth floors hold the general population who are monitored under direct supervision.
